No oven stovetop Bread
Ingredients
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon instant yeast
¾ cup warm water (110°F or 45°C)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (plus extra for greasing)
Instructions
Prepare the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Mix well.
Gradually add warm water and vegetable oil. Stir until the dough comes together.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Let It Rise:
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Shape the Dough:
Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a round or oval loaf.
If using a skillet with a lid, grease it lightly and place the dough inside.
Second Rise:
Cover the skillet with a damp cloth and let the dough rise for another 30 minutes.
Cook on the Stovetop:
Heat the skillet on low to medium heat. Cover with a tight-fitting lid to trap steam.
Cook the bread for 8-10 minutes on one side, then carefully flip and cook for another 7-10 minutes, until golden brown on both sides and cooked through.
Cool & Serve:
Remove the bread from the skillet and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing.
Pro Tips:
Check Doneness: Tap the bottom of the bread; if it sounds hollow, it’s ready!
Flavor Boost: Add herbs, garlic, or cheese to the dough for a savory twist.
Alternative Cookware: Use a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven with a lid if you don’t have a skillet.
