Delicious and Healthy Oat Bread Recipe
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat flour for added nutrition)
- 1 cup rolled oats (plus extra for topping)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar or honey
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
Wet Ingredients:
- 1 1/4 cups warm water (about 110°F or 45°C)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar (or honey), salt, and yeast. Mix well.
- Add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until the mixture forms a sticky dough.
Step 2: Knead the Dough
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Tip: If the dough feels too sticky, sprinkle a little extra flour, one tablespoon at a time.
- Shape the dough into a ball.
Step 3: First Rise
- Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a damp towel or plastic wrap.
- Let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
Step 4: Shape the Dough
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently and shape it into a loaf.
- Place the loaf in a greased loaf pan. Sprinkle extra oats on top and lightly press them into the dough.
Step 5: Second Rise
- Cover the loaf pan and let the dough rise for another 30–45 minutes, until it puffs up.
Step 6: Bake the Bread
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the bread for 30–35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
Step 7: Cool and Serve
- Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 5 minutes.
- Transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
