Air Fryer Cheese and Ham Croquettes
Ingredients:
- 1 cup cooked ham, finely diced
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup milk
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
- ½ cup breadcrumbs (for the filling)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (for coating)
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
- Cooking spray
Instructions:
- Make the Roux: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for about a minute until lightly golden.
- Add Milk: Slowly pour in the milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens.
- Mix in Ham & Cheese: Remove from heat and stir in ham, shredded cheese, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.
- Cool & Shape: Let the mixture cool, then refrigerate for 1-2 hours until firm. Once chilled, shape into small logs or balls.
- Bread the Croquettes:
- In a bowl, mix the egg with 1 tbsp milk.
- Roll each croquette in breadcrumbs, dip in the egg wash, then roll again in breadcrumbs for extra crispiness.
- Air Fry: Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray croquettes with cooking spray and place them in a single layer.
- Cook: Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve: Enjoy with dipping sauces like garlic aioli, ranch, or spicy mayo!
