Air Fryer Cheese and Ham Croquettes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cooked ham, finely diced
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (for the filling)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (for coating)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
  • Cooking spray

Instructions:

  1. Make the Roux: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for about a minute until lightly golden.
  2. Add Milk: Slowly pour in the milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens.
  3. Mix in Ham & Cheese: Remove from heat and stir in ham, shredded cheese, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.
  4. Cool & Shape: Let the mixture cool, then refrigerate for 1-2 hours until firm. Once chilled, shape into small logs or balls.
  5. Bread the Croquettes:
    • In a bowl, mix the egg with 1 tbsp milk.
    • Roll each croquette in breadcrumbs, dip in the egg wash, then roll again in breadcrumbs for extra crispiness.
  6. Air Fry: Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray croquettes with cooking spray and place them in a single layer.
  7. Cook: Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Serve: Enjoy with dipping sauces like garlic aioli, ranch, or spicy mayo!
