First “Unholy Pride” Spotted in Africa. Wildlife researchers say a young male lion cast out of his pride has formed an alliance no one thought possible, by stealing and raising hyenas.Trail cameras first caught him grooming pups instead of hunting them. Months later, he disappeared with three females into the wild. Many believed the strange coalition was dead.

Now, he’s back, stronger than ever. That same lion and his hyena pride have taken over territory once ruled by his old pride. Experts say it works like a normal lion pride, except the females are hyenas, carrying the highest testosterone of any female mammal, making them more violent and aggressive than lions. And unlike most males, this lion doesn’t wait for the kill… he leads every hunt.
