50 years later, no one expected
In 1967, Dr. James Hiram Bedford, a psychology professor and WWI veteran, became the first person cryonically preserved, hoping future science could cure his terminal kidney cancer. Inspired by Dr. Robert Ettinger’s The Prospect of Immortality, Bedford’s body remains frozen at Alcor over 50 years later. Though revival technology doesn’t yet exist, his story reflects humanity’s enduring quest to conquer death.
