Cheesesteak Taco Fries
Ingredients
For the Fries:
- 2 medium turnips or 1 large daikon radish (cut into fries)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
For the Cheesesteak Filling:
- 1 lb shaved steak or thinly sliced beef (ribeye or sirloin works best)
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 small onion (sliced)
- 1 green bell pepper (sliced)
- 1 tsp taco seasoning
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or provolone for a traditional taste)
For Toppings:
- 2 tbsp sour cream
- 2 tbsp guacamole
- Fresh cilantro (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Fries:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Toss the turnip or daikon fries with olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
- Cook the Cheesesteak Filling:
- Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and bell peppers, cooking until softened (about 5 minutes).
- Push the veggies to one side of the skillet and add the shaved steak.
- Sprinkle taco seasoning over the steak and cook until browned, stirring occasionally.
- Mix the steak and veggies together.
- Assemble the Fries:
- Arrange the baked fries on a large serving platter or skillet.
- Layer the cheesesteak filling evenly over the fries.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese on top and broil in the oven for 1–2 minutes, just until the cheese melts.
- Add Toppings:
- Drizzle with sour cream and guacamole.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro if desired.
